Strategic Public
Relations Planning
Getting the plan right is the
just as important in your public relations efforts as it is in
building a bridge. No matter how good one is at writing press
releases or pitching stories, or exploiting new media and
personal networking technologies, if the right plan isn't
right, the effort will be wasted.
My approach is
simple. We start with a strategy.
-
First, we work together to identify
all the stakeholders in your business.
You may be surprised who all is on that list--customers,
prospective customers, suppliers, employees, investors,
prospective investors, bankers, charitable organizations,
regulators, service providers like your local ambulance and
fire departments, providers of services to your employees,
news media, other business leaders, even your competitors.
-
Second, we decide what is the
desired behavior of each of those stakeholders. Perhaps its
greater productivity of employees, less intrusion by
regulators, or improved satisfaction of customers.
-
Third, we decide what message or
messages we need to deliver to trigger the response we are
seeking.
-
Then,
and only then, do
we identify the tactics we will use to deliver those messages.
We will identify the media to be used, the individuals
responsible for each item on the plan, and the timing of each
tactic.
-
We'll also finalize a budget,
allocating resources according to optimize the plan.
-
And, of course, we'll
build in measurable objectives to ensure that we stay on
course.

your company's visibility, to earn respect for the
contributions you are making, and/or enhance your revenues,
